Contact angle of FAG spindle bearings

FAG spindle bearings can support axial loads in one direction as well as radial loads.

If FAG spindle bearings are used in an O or X arrangement, they can support axial forces in both directions as well as moments. Bearings in a tandem arrangement can support axial loads in one direction only.

The contact angle indicates the axial load carrying capacity of the FAG spindle bearing. As the contact angle increases, so does the axial load carrying capacity. FAG spindle bearings are available with the contact angle:

  • a = 15° (suffix C)
  • a = 20° (suffix D)
  • a = 25° (suffix E).

(1) Marking

The load direction of the outer ring is marked on the cylindrical surface of the outer ring. The open side of the symbol indicates the side of the outer ring capable of supporting axial load (the large shoulder).
